9/10.Ĭaltrops- The other very unique attack item. This is basically a distraction item that can kill. Upgrading this will also cause the target to suicide after 10 seconds, picking up another kill after the first friendly fire or few. It trades killing a single target that is a threat to you for possibly killing a few targets through friendly fire. Hisomu Terror Dart- This is one of the 2 very unique attack items. Provides a simple kill where you need it, and can terrorize guards who see it in action. Spike Mine- Like the Noise Maker, the first attack weapon seen is also a decent one. Both are useful for pacifist runs, and the light ability is able to block out mounted lights and normal lights both without sound. 3/10.ĭusk Moths- An alright alternative to the Noise Maker or Distraction Flare, the Dusk Moths allow you to block out lights or disable a guard for a time. The only reason the devs put this item in the game was to make a Metal Gear Solid reference, which I appreciate, but it's not a good item. Good Ninja could make better use of other items. The idea is to be able to hide from lasers and guards when there are no hiding spots around, but the creators put hiding places only where you need them. In some levels, a downgrade from the Noise Maker, but in any levels with goggled guards (Underground Guards, Bandits, and Stalkers) it is better than the Noise Maker. 9/10.ĭistraction Flare- A situational item, but one that can be as nasty as caltrops when used correctly. Does almost everything better than the Noise Maker- almost. Can be used in some levels to ease laser challenges. Smoke Bomb- One of the best distraction items, make use of this to get out of sticky situations with guards and lasers. This allows you to distract guards/make them look the other way when no lights are around to break. Noise Maker- The first distraction item recieved, but still a very viable option. Here are the distraction and attack items rated. It's best to get an array of both, so you're not left with an okay distraction item but a great attack item, as compared to decent distraction and decent attack. Distraction items help by misdirecting the guards away from you, while attack items simply go aggressive and kill (or disable) guards.ĭistraction Items are better if you're going for a more passive or even pacifist playstyle (true pacifist is not recommended for beginners)Īttack Items are better if you're going for a more generic or even aggressive playstyle. There are a collection of both distraction and attack items that you can choose from (granted you have unlocked them) that can aid your gameplay regarding guards and not getting caught. Because this extends your jump, you can use it to easier jump over guards.

One of the only upgrades that is extremely useful is the Parachute Cloth, an upgrade that allows you to hold jump to slow your fall. I don't recommend getting these very much unless you have points to blow. Upgrades are not extremely useful, and in most cases simply make parts of the game a little less tedious, such as not having to wait 3 seconds for a lock to pick, and instead wait 1 second. New kills are unlocks while, despite being the most costly unlock, they are the most useful. It could be making his sprint quieter, it could be giving him more armor, it could be making him pick locks faster. Then, upgrades make your ninja more powerful in some way. For instance, one lets you hang a guard with your chain while hanging from it, one lets you drop down on him from the sky and kill him, etc. There are 6 gruesome ways to kill enemies that you can unlock, and it's not purely cosmetic, where the kills look different. There are 2 types of techniques: New kills and upgrades. They aren't items that you can change out, they're on you forever. Techniques are unlocks that upgrade specifically your ninja your character. This guide will include both items and costumes. Thanks to Unlocks, such as new techniques, items and costumes, and just how much more skilled you are at the game once you've beaten it once (or a few times in my case), you can replay the game in different ways with different new items. It is a short game but it has very high replay value. After over 120 hours in Mark of the Ninja, I have to say that it is one of the best games I have ever played.
